Flying direct to the lodge airstrips
Flying direct to the lodge airstrips is the most efficient and easy way of getting to your safari lodge. The light aircraft transfers depart from a terminal at OR Tambo International (Johannesburg) and land at the lodge airstrips. The flight takes approximately 1,5 hours.
Upon arrival at the airstrip, you are met by the game rangers and then road transferred in open 4 x 4 landrover to the lodge. So your game viewing starts almost immediately! If you are combining safari lodges, you can also "lodge hop" between the safari lodges via the light aircraft transfers.
We can book these light aircraft transfers for you, and also ensure that the connections with your international flights work.

Flying to the closest airports
You can also fly from OR Tambo International Airport (JHB) to either of Hoedspruit Airport (also called Eastgate), or Kruger Mpumahlanga Airport (also called KMIA). These flights operate on a daily basis. There is also a direct flight between Cape Town and KMIA. From these airports you can either catch a light aircraft transfer to the lodges, or we can arrange a road transfer for you.
Hoedspruit Airport would be the best airport for the Timbavati, Thonrybush, Manyeleti and northern Sabi Sands safari lodges. KMIA should be used for the southern Sabi Sands lodges and most of the Kruger Park Concession safari lodges.
We can book all the flights and road transfers for you and ensure that they tie in with your itinerary.

Self drive to the safari lodges
To self drive from Johannesburg to the Greater Kruger Park is very easy. The drive takes about 6 hours and is on excellent tarred roads. As you approach the entry gates to the reserves you do begin to drive on well maintained gravel roads though.
The self drive option is the least expensive way of getting to your safari lodge, and if you elect this method we will provide you with directions. The roads are well sign posted and easy to follow. In addition, it is safe and there are plenty of petrol stations to fill up with fuel on the way.
