FOOTSTEPS ACROSS THE DELTA
Okavango Delta, Botswana

Introduction

In the Okavango Delta you can experience some of the most astonishing contrasts in the world that nature has to offer when the mighty Okavango River flows across the arid Kalahari Desert. Footsteps Across the Delta allows you to enter some of the greatest and untamed regions on the African continent. The product is a spectacular variety of habitats, ravine forests, palm islands, permanent swamps and dry sandveld all with an unequal wealth of animal diversity, here at Footsteps the emphasis is on exploring this breathtakingly beautiful and diverse environment as the first African explorer's did, either by mekoro or on foot.

Camp Description

Footsteps Across the Delta is a tented camp designed to let you actually feel Africa beneath your feet. Footsteps is a base in a comfortable private camp which accommodates guests in three uniquely designed twin bedded tents, which are all insect proofed with sewn-in floors. Footsteps offer a personal safari experience, hosting a maximum of 6 guests at a time, making it perfect for small groups of friends or family. And for the true bush experience each tent has its own bucket shower and bush toilet and a daily laundry service. As for having a unique spa-like treatment, piping hot water is brought to your outdoor canvas safari basin in a bucket and your bath is filled up and soothing oils or bubble bath is poured in for a luxurious soak under the stars of the African night sky.

All appetites are whet as the chef busies himself preparing truly unique dishes such as tasty bread and rolls are cooked in an earth oven heated by glowing coals. Soups, casseroles and vegetables are cooked in great cast iron pots and served piping hot. The dining table looks out at a water channel and is adorned each night with all sorts of bush flora and remarkable napkin creations. There is no dressing up for dinner here, it is a very informal camp, and guides and guests gather around the fire before and after dinner for drinks and tales.

You can have the entire camp to yourself and at night one of the only sounds you will hear are the lions roaring. Some unusual surprises await you at Footsteps such as a sudden bush lunch or walking around a gigantic termite mound just as the sun is setting to find a table with snacks and a chilled bottle of champagne awaiting you.

Game Viewing

A true safari experience is highlighted by walking in the Deltas wilderness. Training is not required and can be enjoyed by all as the distances traveled are akin to the early days, where emphasis is on discovery and exploration while learning about tracking wildlife and understanding animal movements, patterns and behaviour - every morning fresh spoor is tracked to reveal the nights events. Footsteps Camp is for the adventurous safari visitor who wants to do things on his own two feet, expert bush guides make you feel like you are in good hands as they lead you to encounter the big African game on their own turf. You might not get that close to the flighty zebra or antelope, but stay downwind as your guide will instruct you and you may encounter elephant at really close quarters. Guides frequently report seeing predators which include lion, wild dog, hyena and cheetah. More in depth information on trees, grasses and the finer details are also on offer. Other activities available include game drives, mekoro trips or fishing which vary throughout the year.
