Faru Faru River Lodge, Grumeti Reserve

Introduction

Grumeti Reserves is located adjacent to the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, bordering the national park, and encompasses 400,000 acres of unrivalled wilderness. The area forms part of the famous migratory route, which is travelled by hundreds of thousands of animals every year.

 

Camp Description

Faru Faru River Lodge is built on a gently sloping hill, overlooking a waterhole and the Grumeti River. It is built in the style of a classic East African safari camp, with the suites and lodge areas decorated as a throwback to the timeless Colonial era. The lodge area offers a lounge and dining room, elevated viewing decks, heated plunge pool, spa and Colonial Trading Post. Walks from Faru Faru along the Grumeti River, with its unrivalled spectrum of fauna and flora, are an unforgettable experience.

Each of the six air-conditioned suites feature a picture window and deck, with your own Swarovski spotting scope, from which you can enjoy the rugged landscape, whilst at the same time, the luxurious comfort of your suite. Each room is en suite with a bath and shower.

 

Game Viewing

Expert guides will lead you on interpretive, twice-daily game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles into the game-rich Serengeti National Park, boasting the largest mass of free-ranging animals on earth. As there are only two small camps in this remote park, you almost never see other safari vehicles. Sundowners on the Kirawira Hills are a memorable way to end a days safari.

With over 341 species recorded, bird watching around Grumeti is exceptional birdwatchers almost always exceed their sighting targets.

 

Activities

Game drives and walks can be enjoyed with professional guides amongst the most experienced in East Africa, whilst other activities include archery, lawn croquet, mountain biking, equestrian pursuits, and hot air ballooning.

The Equestrian Centre is situated adjacent to Sasakwa Lodge, and is home to sixteen horses. The Centre includes a lunging arena, fenced paddock, and a walled 2.7 kilometre riding track, which can also be used for walking and jogging. More experienced riders can enjoy outrides onto the Serengeti plains. Tack is English style, and guests have the choice of either English or Western saddles.

 

Camp Facts

The suites have electronic safes, overhead fans, hairdryers, direct dial telephones with US lines, and wireless internet access.

Laundry and valet services are available and included in the tariff due to the remote location of the lodge, dry cleaning facilities are not available.

The main lodge areas offer a dining room, bar lounge with satellite television, DVD player and library, Playstation and board games, outdoor barbeque area, and Colonial Trading Post .

Viewing decks, overlooking the waterhole, are positioned alongside the heated swimming pool.

A wide selection of fine wines, champagnes and sparkling wines, cognacs, cigarettes and cigars is available.

The Spa features two therapy rooms for treatments. Many treatments can also be conducted in guest suites.

Access to the Equestrian Centre, which is home to 16 horses, a combination of polo ponies, part thoroughbreds and warm blood sport horses, between 14 and 17 hands. Tack is English style, and both English and Western saddles are available. All equestrian activities are led by professional, fully qualified horse guides.

A family friendly reserve; children over the age of twelve are welcome at Faru Faru.

How to get there

Twice daily scheduled flights are available from Arusha, and private charters can be arranged, all of which land at Sasakwa airstrip, located a few minutes from Sasakwa Lodge, and a comfortable drive through the Grumeti wilderness to Faru Faru.
