Chichele Presidential Lodge South Luangwa National Park Zambia
Introduction
Chichele is situated on a magnificent hilltop in the South Luangwa National Park overlooking the Luangwa River.
The South Luangwa National Park is a place of primeval forest and lush savanna, stretching for hundreds of miles and encompassing the Luangwa River basin, its adjacent highlands and a mosaic of different habitats extending outwards from the central river. Formerly a private Presidential retreat, Chichele (pronounce to rhyme with belly) occupies one of the most breathtaking sites in the entire park.
Lodge Description
The Lodge has 10 elegant Victorian style lodges, each air-conditioned and with its own private terrace from which to view the game strewn river valley and flood plain below.
Four-poster beds with crisp period linen, needlepoint cushions and a comforter for those rare cool evenings, set an ambience of elegance. A sumptuous bathroom with twin basins and ball & claw bathtup would have been a charming surprise for those early colonial visitors but a must for those of us who travel today. The main hall and dining room bring a high level of sophistication to the Lodge.
A grand piano and antique gramophone grace the room along with carefully collected furniture and eclectic bric a brac. Zebra skin rugs, exotically carved lamps and touches of leather remind the visitor that Africa is at hand. Outside immaculately manicured lawns dotted with umbrellas surround the formal pool and occasional fountains. Whilst deep shady verandas provide a welcome retreat during the heat of the day.
