CAMP OKAVANGO
Okavango Delta
Botswana

Introduction

Camp Okavango is situated in the beautiful Okavango Delta on the private and remote Nxaragha Island. For guests seeking a true water experience in the heart of the Delta, Camp Okavango is the place to be. It is a bird-watcher’s paradise and promises a year round water experience. It is the ideal get-away for honeymooners or guests seeking a quiet and secluded retreat.

Camp Description

Camp Okavango consists of 12 luxury east African-style safari tents, each with en-suite facilities and private sun decks. The lodge can accommodate a maximum of 24 guests and has an elegant thatch main building and dining room that leads onto an expansive open-air patio for evenings around the open boma. Other facilities include a cocktail bar, lounge, wildlife reference library, a secluded bird-viewing hide, shaded hammocks, a delightful sun deck and plunge pool. For guests who prefer the ultimate in luxury, Camp Okavango boasts the “Okavango Suite” a thatched cottage offering complete privacy and the option of private game-viewing activities and dining options, perfect for honeymooners.

Game Viewing

The Okavango Delta is a unique oasis at the northern edge of the Kalahari Desert. Camp Okavango borders the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, hence includes a diverse habitat that supports a wide variety of animals. Guests may see wild dog, cheetah and leopard. Resident species include lion, elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, hyena, zebra, kudu, red lechwe, sable and roan antelope. Guided bush walks to the Delta's islands offer an opportunity to track the larger species that inhabit this wilderness area. Other activities include game drives, mokoro excursions, canoeing and fishing. Papyrus and Phoenix palms flourish here and the waters provide an ecosystem for Fish Eagles and Kingfishers, Hippopotamus, Crocodiles and Tiger-fish. The Okavango Delta is a birders paradise and bird-watching is fantastic all year round. Another highlight is the heronry at Gadikwe Lagoon, which provides nesting sites for hundreds of birds.
