BORANA LODGE
Laikipia Plateau
Kenya

Introduction

Borana Ranch is situated 16miles from the equator at the foot of Mount Kenya. Borana has been run by the Dyer and Powys families since 1920. Set on the edge of the Samangua, Borana Ranch is unrivalled in luxury, elegance and comfort.

Camp Description

Borana Lodge has 8 exclusive guest cottages decorated in a luxurious up-country style. All rooms have an open fireplace, veranda and en suite bathroom. The lodge also boasts an infinity swimming pool, bar and dining area and shop selling local produce.

Laragai House is set around a central garden with 5 double and 3 twin rooms. The house can sleep 10 guests in extreme comfort. Ten permanent staff members are assigned to the house to ensure the guest's wishes is fulfilled. The ranch has also assisted in building two lodges, Il'Ngwesi and Tassia. These 2 lodges lie on semi-arid plains and are excellent points from which to enjoy hiking, biking, climbing, riding and paragliding opportunities.

Game Viewing

The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is known as a pioneer private rhino sanctuary which also holds 25% of the world's remaining population of Grevy's zebra. The conservancy is also an important elephant refuge. Working with the local community, the organisation is trying to re-establish the old northern elephant migratory route as a sustainable and safe ecosystem for wildlife. Lewa has been involved in a programme of restocking other wildlife areas.

From the bedrooms you will see elephants, herds of buffalo, zebra and giraffe while rock hyraxes, bush pigs and African hare roam freely in the lodge's garden. Lion, Jackson's hartebeest and herds of antelope, bush buck, colobus and leopard are all found within the ranch. Birdlife is teeming with over 300 species of bird on record.
