How to Get there
By Air
SUNSAFARIS can arrange scheduled flights for visitors to Mozambique. Maputo is the main International airport. There are regular flights from South Africa to Maputo and visitors can also book a private charter from Dar es Salaam or Nairobi. There are also direct flights to the Bazaruto Archipelago in the centre of Mozambique and the Quirimbas Archipelago in the far north from South Africa. The local airline LAM (Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique) operates 3 weekly flights to Nampula, Pemba from Dar es Salaam and 2 weekly flights from Nairobi.
By Land
Visitors can self-drive to Mozambique from South Africa. The road from Johannesburg, via Nelspruit, to Mozambique is in good condition and well-tarred and the border crossing is at Komatipoort/Ressano Garcia.
Seasons and Climate of Namibia
The climate in Mozambique is tropical however varies in the different regions of the country, however generally the inland areas are slightly cooler, although more humid than along the coast in the rainy season. The best time to travel to Mozambique is during the winter months also the dry season from April to September when the least rainfall is experienced. The southern parts of the country are generally drier and less tropical than the north, with temperatures along the coast averaging 80°F (27°C). The summer months, also the rainy season coincides with the heat and humidity from October to March, with average coastal temperatures of 88°F (31°C). The southern parts of the country are generally drier and with a less tropical climate than the north. The best time for game viewing is during the months of August and September, towards the end of the dry season. The best time for bird-watching is usually December to April, which is the hot, rainy season. The Mozambique coast is a good year-round fishing and diving destination. The best time to go fishing for marlin is from September to January, while sailfish season runs from May to September.
Bazaruto Archipelago
The Bazaruto Archipelago offers incredible opportunities for diving and snorkeling as well as other water sport opportunities. The Archipelago offers four main islands, Bazaruto Island, Benguerra Island, Magaruque Island and Santa Carolina Island. The area is protected and teeming with wildlife. Big game fishing is a highlight as well as some of the best diving and snorkelling can be experienced here. The Bazaruto Archipelago also provides a magnificent cultural experience as the area is home to traditional fishermen villages and guests can learn about their way of life and survival skills. Apart from water activities like Catamaran trips, windsurfing etc, the bird-life is incredible and guests can also enjoy island walks and picnics as well as day trips to some of the smaller islands in the area.

Inhambane Province
Inhambane Province is rich in history and culture; Vasco da Gama stopped in the magnificent bay of Inhambane in the late 1400's to stock up on food and he was intrigued with the place and named it Terra de Boa Gente or 'Land of the Gentle People'. Inhambane is famous for offering some of the best snorkelling locations in Mozambique as well as endless white sandy beaches and private and secluded coves. Sailing in a traditional dhow is a highlight here. Inhambane is also renowned for offering visitors the opportunity to swim alongside whale- sharks, an unforgettable experience. Barra Reef is known to offer remarkable diving as well as delicious and fresh seafood. A few resorts in the area are Padi affiliated Dive resorts and the diving is first class. Other activities include Snorkelling, Spear Fishing, Catamaran Cruises, Quad Bike Trails, Horse Riding, sailing, Hobie-cats, laser and dingy sailing as well as paddle and snake ski's.

Maputo
Maputo is a vibrant and friendly city; formerly known as Lourenco Marques and is Mozambique's capital. It offers the ideal stop-over for business as well as leisure guests and offers visitors an exciting mixture of history and culture. Maputo offers a fusion of exotic dishes, lively coffee shops, restaurants and side-walk cafés. A strong Portuguese influence is present and Maputo is known for their spicy dishes like peri-peri prawns and other exotic seafood dishes. One of the most important landmarks in Maputo is the Fort of Nossa Senhora da Concecião, which was the heart of the original settlement over a century ago. Niassa National Game Reserve
Niassa National Game Reserve covers and area of approximately 42 000 km² and is home to more than 12,000 elephant, 8,000 buffalo, around 200 endangered wild dogs. Other predators in the reserve include species such as lion and leopard. The reserve is a birder's paradise offering more than 370 bird species. The area is also home to at least 3 endemic species including Niassa Wildebeest, Boehms Zebra and Johnston's Impala. Niassa Game Reserve offers guests a traditional safari experience in a remote corner of Africa. The reserve offers incredible photographic opportunities and is a haven for photographers. It offers the greatest concentration of wildlife in Mozambique and contains the largest protected miombo forest ecosystems in the world. Quirimbas Archipelago
The 1,500km² Quirimbas National Park provides a safe haven for dolphins, sea turtles, whales, sharks and dugongs. The Quirimbas Archipelago consists of 27 idyllic islands, a tropical island destination offering beautiful and unspoiled white sandy beaches, spectacular marine life as well as fauna and flora unique to the area. The Quirimbas is also known for offering a fascinating cultural experience; Ibo Island is situated close to Matemo Island and offers a combination of Arabian, European and African cultures dating back to the 15th and 18th century and has been nominated by UNSECO as a World Heritage Site.
