AMBOSELI SERENA LODGE
Amboseli National Park, Kenya

Introduction

Amboseli Serena Lodge is situated in Amboseli National Park in Kenya. In the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, the scenery is picturesque. Influenced by local Masai architecture, the lodge is in perfect harmony with the environment.

Camp Description

The lodge is nestled in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, hidden beneath a copse of giant acacia trees and beside a gently flowing spring. The low red adode style cottages are inspired by local Masai architecture. Each guest room has a distinct Masai Manyatta mood and is furnished with artwork by a renowned local artist. There are 96 en-suite rooms of which 86 are two twin beds, 10 one twin beds and 17 pairs of interconnecting rooms. Laundry services are included. The dining area overlooks a saltlick and floodlit waterhole where big game occasionally gather to drink. A full serviced bar is located next to the dining room. There is smaller bar at the large outdoor swimming pool. The Masai provide nightly entertainment.

Game Viewing

Amboseli National Park is in the Kajiado District, Rift Valley Province in Kenya. The ecosystem spreads across the Kenya Tanzania border. In 1974 it was declared a UNESCO Man in order to protect this unique ecosystem. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to free-ranging elephants. Amboseli is also home to large concentrations of Masai giraffe, Cokes hartebeest, Thomsons and Grants gazelle, zebra, duiker and waterbuck. Lion, jackal and cheetah are also abundant. Less common are the fringe-eared oryx and bushbabies. Most mammals stay around the swamps during the day before heading to the hillier plains in the south of the park before nightfall. More than 420 species of bird have been recorded in the park. Flamingo, pelican and Egyptian geese flock to Amboseli during the green season when the plains turn emerald green. Observation Hill in the south of the park offers breathtaking 360 degree panoramic views over the park and surrounding mountains. To capture the elephants grazing in the swamps in front of Mount Kilimanjaro, you will need to wake early (before 7am). The elephants can be found in the Ol Tukai and Olokenya swamps.

Wildlife Activities

Early morning and late afternoon drives when the bush is cooler and the game is more active.
