Why I love safaris
I have learned that everything in Africa bites – but the safari bug is worst of all! Fresh air. Golden sunsets. Remoteness. Sun. Tracks. Close encounters…it is very difficult to find words to describe Africa & the memories she adds to your life. I guess it is because Africa is not a destination, but an experience. Time stands still. It feels as if you have been in the bush forever. There is nothing quite like waking up to the sounds of the wild & knowing that they are out there… somewhere. Finding them is like finding Wally! Lions drinking, elephants splashing, wild dogs playing… The bush is a stage & the animals its artists. They do what they please & they eat when (& what) they want. We also eat, we explore, we read, we relax, we swim, we dream, we nap. We eat again, we encounter, we eat again. The day feels almost complete. At night we sit around the camp fire, talking about our day in the African bush… Life is tough – but as I always say: Someone has to do it!
Best sightings
At Simbambili we saw the Big 5 in one game drive. At Londolozi we saw almost a dozen leopards in one day, and at Honeyguide we were woken up by a group of elephant right outside our tent.
